The ramparts and the cathedral
Walking around Angoulême’s ramparts means taking in magnificent viewpoints over the Charente valley and the roofs of the old town. The route passes Saint-Pierre Romanesque Cathedral, whose carved façade is one of the richest in France, and the cobbled lanes leading to the Town Hall. An elegant setting, perfect for a sunset stroll together.
International Comics City
By the Charente, in the former Magelis warehouses, the International City of Comics and Image offers exhibitions, a specialist library and a cinema. Every January, the International Comics Festival turns the city into a great ball of authors and readers. A date on site can quickly turn into an excuse to extend the conversation elsewhere.
Market, river and painted walls
In the heart of the city, Angoulême’s covered market gathers Charente producers: cheeses, pineau, cognac and cagouilles. Below, the quays invite you to cycle and to take a gabare river cruise. A trail of painted walls stages Corto Maltese or Lucky Luke along the streets. On Lyad, members from Angoulême share their favourite spots; it is up to you to find someone to turn the page with.
